In the 1891 census he was living at 25 Mount Pleasant Road, Dartford, Kent. with his wife Eliza and children Lydia, Alfred and Henry.  Also living there were his widower father-in-law John Reynolds, sister-in-law Mary Reynolds.   His occupation was listed as Gas Worker.
